Facilitating K'vuras Yisroel with Dignity Through Education, Activism, and Financial Subsidy
Donate NowThe Meis Mitzvah Fund ensures that no Jew is ever left without a proper Jewish burial. In Jewish tradition, caring for a meis mitzvah – a deceased person who has no one to bury them – is considered among the greatest acts of kindness. Even a Kohen Gadol would defile himself for a meis mitzvah because honoring the dead in this situation is a communal obligation. This mitzvah is known as chesed shel emet (true kindness) because it is done entirely for the sake of the deceased, who cannot repay the favor.
Sadly, many individuals without family or resources face the risk of being cremated or given an indigent burial, which is contrary to Jewish law and tradition. Our fund collaborates with funeral homes, cemeteries, and caring volunteers to ensure every Jew receives a dignified kever Yisroel (Jewish burial). Since our inception, we have helped numerous cases of meis mitzvah, guided by the principle that every Jew deserves the dignity of a halachic funeral, regardless of financial means.
In Jewish tradition, kavod ha’met—the honor and dignity of the deceased—is a sacred obligation. Yet, many Jewish souls are at risk of cremation or improper burial due to financial hardship, lack of education, or the absence of proper provisions. Our mission is to ensure that no Jew is denied a proper Jewish burial, regardless of circumstance.
Since we began tracking our efforts, we have:
Behind these numbers are real people—parents, siblings, and individuals who otherwise would have faced tragic outcomes. Time and again, we've received heartfelt testimonials from families and community leaders expressing gratitude for the dignity and peace we helped provide. However, the need continues to grow. Each day, new cases arise, and without swift action, more Jewish souls risk being lost to cremation or improper burial.
Through our partnership with Merkos 302, we are working to expand awareness and advocacy efforts, ensuring that more people understand the importance of a proper Jewish burial and have access to the support they need. Your support can save lives—even after death. Join us in this critical mission. Your donation ensures that every Jew receives the respect they deserve, in life and beyond. Give today and be a part of this sacred mitzvah.

A meis mitzvah is someone who passes away and does not have anyone to ensure they receive a proper Jewish burial. The mitzvah is communal – we are all responsible for ensuring that their body is handled with dignity and buried according to halacha.
In Judaism, burial is a core requirement for honoring the deceased (kavod ha’met). Cremation or neglect of the dead goes against halacha. Providing a respectful funeral and burial is considered a significant act of kindness, reflecting the belief that every Jewish soul deserves rest in sacred ground.
